Translation Policy

  1. Purpose
    1. To allow the use of, and to provide a disclaimer for, the use of a word-to-word translation
      dictionary while taking the state written knowledge certification exam.

  3. Definitions
    1. Competency Evaluation: A written knowledge examination and a manual skill
      demonstration of examination administered to verify the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential
      to carry out the duties of a nursing assistant.
    2. Written Knowledge Competency Evaluation: Knowledge exam required for
      certification that is administered in writing on the computer using TMU testing
      software, with the option of an audio (oral) function available for exam to be read
      aloud by the computer.
    3. Test Candidate: An individual who has completed the NATCEP and is preparing for,
      or actively engaged in taking the competency evaluation exams.
    4. Test Master Universe (TMU©) - software program used by UNAR to provide
      competency evaluation testing and maintain registry records.
  4. Policy
    1. The official version of the certification exam is the English version.
    2. Word-to-word translation dictionaries are allowed for the written knowledge exam but
      must be checked by test site personnel to assure that no definitions are included in the dictionary
      and that it is not a source of handwritten text or materials that could be used in violation of the
      UNAR cheating policy.
    3. The written knowledge exam has a Spanish translation feature available to all test
      candidates. Test candidates will have the option to select Spanish during the written knowledge
      exam by utilizing the drop-down arrow located under each question.
    4. Use of a word-to-word translation dictionary or the TMU Spanish translation tool, is at
      the examinee’s own discretion. UNAR makes no warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied, as to the accuracy, reliability, or correctness of any translation made from English to any
      other language by a word-to-word translation dictionary or the TMU Spanish translation tool.
